Philadelphia – The Middle East Forum announced today that the appointment of Daniel Mandel of Melbourne, Australia, as its associate director.
Mr. Mandel has been a fellow in the Department of History at Melbourne University and associate editor of The Review, a monthly magazine dealing principally with the Middle East, international terrorism and security issues, with special emphasis on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
His doctorate, on the United Nations decision to partition Palestine will appear in 2004 from Frank Cass Publishers, London, as Dr H.V. Evatt and the Establishment of Israel: The Undercover Zionist.
Mr. Mandel has contributed to the Australian national media on many aspects of current affairs, especially the Middle East. He has testified before Australian parliamentary sub-committees on diverse matters as Iraqi disarmament and the impact of UN sanctions and lectured before diverse audiences. He has publicly debated the war on militant Islam and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The Forum's director, Daniel Pipes, welcomed Mr. Mandel's appointment. "I'm very pleased that Daniel has sought out and joined our team in Philadelphia. He has a passionate interest in the modern Middle East, the issues that energize the Forum, as well as excellent experience of the mass media and will be an asset in our activities. In the past year alone, he has interviewed figures like Ehud Barak and Jose Ramos-Horta. He brings an informed outsider's perspective to the issues of US Middle East policy.
