MEF Hires Dexter Van Zile as FWI Managing Editor

PHILADELPHIA – March 5, 2022 – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Dexter Van Zile as inaugural managing editor of Focus on Western Islamism (FWI). He will lead a team to build FWI into a leading platform for counter-Islamist research, reporting, investigation, and analysis.

Mr. Van Zile previously served as the Shillman Research Fellow for the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA), where he focused on the propaganda war against Israel. His writings have appeared in many publications, including The Boston Globe and The Jerusalem Post. He is the author of Submitted Under Protest: Essays Written in Defense of Western Freedom (Kazadi Publications, 2015).

Prior to his work at CAMERA, Mr. Van Zile wrote extensively about fisheries and ocean management, land use, forestry and environmental issues for National Fisherman. He is the veteran of three harvests on a potato farm in Whatcom County, Washington State.

Mr. Van Zile received a BA in politics and government from the University of Puget Sound and an MA in political science and environmental studies from Western Washington University.

“Dexter adds greatly to MEF’s already-strong team of analysts,” commented Daniel Pipes, the organization’s president, “and we look forward to his fulfilling the potential of Focus on Western Islamism.”

FWI adheres to the credo that radical Islam is the problem and moderate Islam is the solution. It works to expose Islamist ideology and finances, uncover Islamist corruption, and highlight intra-Islamist divisions. It gives voice to counter-Islamist specialists and to reform Muslims.

The Middle East Forum promotes American interests in the region and protects Western civilization from Islamism. It does so through a combination of original ideas, focused activism, and the funding of allies.

PHILADELPHIA – August 20, 2024 – A member of Maryland’s “Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention” is out of a job. Ayman Nassar, the second Islamist commissioner to get tossed from the hate crimes board within three months, resigned on August 19 amid public outrage over his role in terror-linked organizations and his history of anti-American, antisemitic, and homophobic hate speech.

Nassar has accused Israel of harvesting the organs of living Palestinians and shared posts referring to Gaza as a “Holocaust.” He is chairman of the Aafia Foundation, a “terrorist support group” that seeks to free “Lady Al Qaeda” Aafia Siddiqui and other convicted terrorists from prison.
