CAIR Doesn’t Care About Hate Speech

CAIR claims to be a civil rights and advocacy organization.

Last month, Islamist Watch recorded three separate instances in which the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) refused to comment on hate speech--against Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

CAIR claimsto be a civil rights and advocacy organization, fighting for “justice and mutual understanding.” Yet, CAIR has already ignored three egregious instances of Islamist defamation of others.

On November 6th, we contacted CAIR-New York and CAIR-National to ask for comment about Ayat Oraby, a New York-based Islamist ‘journalist’ who supports the Muslim Brotherhood and spreads conspiracy theories about Coptic Christians. Afaf Nasher, executive director of the New York branch, answered our email by claimingthat CAIR only deals with “domestic civil rights issues.” (Of course, we know this is not true; CAIR has commented on hate-speech before. When we pointed this out to her, we received no response.)

On November 17, we contacted John Robbins of CAIR-Boston to ask for comment on the extreme anti-Semitism among the faculty at Boston Islamic Seminary. We received no response.

And, on November 29, we contacted Ibrahim Hooper at CAIR-National, asking for comment on CAIR-Florida official Hassan Shibly’s endorsement of Khatme Nubuwwat, the extreme anti-Ahmadi movement. Again, we received no response.

We wonder how many instances of hatred CAIR will ignore in December.
