San Francisco State University (SFSU) professor Rabab Abdulhadi never misses an opportunity to convey her favorite bigoted slogan, “Zionists Not Welcome on Campus!” This time, it was emblazoned on signs and dutifully repeated by one of her acolytes (a Filipino student who’s convinced the US is subjecting the Southern Philippines to martial law and daily bombings) at a campus protest of SFSU classifying Israeli Independence Day as a religious holiday.
Although describing the holiday as religious turns out to have been a “clerical error,” Abdulhadi demanded not only that SFSU remove it from the list, but that it be replaced with Muslim holidays Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. She also insisted that SFSU issue an apology to “Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims,” and “other marginalized communities,” including Jews “who refuse to let Israel speak in their name.”
In sum, the protest wasn’t really about the classification, but about anything related to Israel being treated in a positive, or even neutral, manner.
