British Publisher Buys “Jewel of Medina” [incl. Denise Spellberg]

Apparently, there’s at least one publisher that’s not afraid to back a book that will assuredly offend many Muslims. According to The Guardian, the taker is an independent publishing house Gibson Square in the UK. The book, for those of you with short-term memory loss, is of course American journalist Sherry Jones’ “The Jewel of Medina,” a historical novel about Aisha, one of Prophet Muhammad’s wives. The book attracted all sorts of attention when UT professor Denise Spellberg panned it to Random House. The whole drama can be relived in previous blog posts here and here. AndSpellberg’s interview with a Statesman freelancer.

Stay tuned to see if the predicted violence follows.
