Caution First in Diab Case [Letters to the Editor]

Kudos to both B’nai Brith Canada for initially lodging their concern regarding Hassan Diab and to Carlton University in Ottawa for rescinding his teaching career at the university.

University is where young people are taught to think on their own and, in many cases, professors have been known to tell their students to depart from their parents way of thinking.

The students are at an impressionable age and I shudder to think what comments Mr. Diab would have let slip to his students.

True, in Canada one is innocent until proven guilty, however, a charge of terrorism can be too dangerous to allow the alleged perpetrator near its targets.

Should Mr. Diab be found not guilty, as in a case of mistaken identity, then by all means allow him to resume his teaching career. For now, I tend to be on the side of caution.

Diab appointment alarmed Brazilian community

We, from B’nai B’rith of Rio Grande do Sul, a branch of B’nai B’rith Brazil, would like to express our greatest indignation about the sad news that alarmed our community: an alleged terrorist like Hassan Diab teaching in a university! What kind of university is that?

We congratulate your alert and complaint against such an action. We hope that Carleton will dismiss this alleged murderer [Ed. note: The university has].
