Last week, I called on FAU President Frank Brogan to launch a full-scale investigation into charges that professor Mustafa Abu Sway is affiliated with the terrorist organization Hamas.
I was mistaken in looking to Brogan and FAU to investigate this matter, as the university had been diligent and expeditious in turning over the matter to the U.S. State Department.
In fact, FAU has done exactly what it should have in immediately calling upon the State Department to do an extensive background search on the Fulbright scholar currently teaching on its campus.
If the State Department ever divulges its findings, I have no doubt that Brogan and the university will act in a manner consistent with those findings.
My comments last week did not accurately reflect FAU’s handling of this potentially explosive matter and for that I must apologize. I have the utmost confidence in Brogan and believe he will react swiftly and appropriately when he hears from the State Department.
