Gabriel Piterberg of UCLA Resigns from European Fellowship after Students Petition for His Removal

Gabriel Piterberg, the UCLA professor of Middle East history accused of sexual harassment by several graduate students, on Sunday resigned from his Fernand Braudel Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. The Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student paper, reports that a petition calling for his removal from EUI started by students there and at UCLA garnered 254 signatures. Piterberg earlier paid a $3,000 fine and forfeited one quarter’s pay. Two UCLA graduate students are suing the UC Regents for discouraging them from filing complaints against Piterberg.
