House Democrats Invite Islamist Southern Methodist U. Prof Omar Suleiman to Give Invocation

Omar Suleiman, the “Israel-hating, gay-bashing, sexist imam” who, as the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) reports, was invited by Texas Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson to give last Thursday’s invocation to the House of Representatives, is also an adjunct Islamic studies professor at Southern Methodist University.

Suleiman has been much in the news recently for Rep. Ilhan Omar retweeting his ludicrous claim that “Jesus was a Palestinian,” which is on par with the anti-Israel rhetoric for which he’s known.

According to IPT, Suleiman also “holds views about gays and women that would spark outrage on the left if they came from a preacher of any other faith.” Such views were documented by the Middle East Forum’s Islamist Watch in 2017 and should have been readily available to House Democrats via a simple internet search.

As we saw before when University of Southern California professor and Sharia law proponent Sherman Jackson opened the 2016 Democratic National Convention, politicians should exercise more caution before inviting Islamist academics into the fold. That is, unless they agree with their views.
