Due to public outcry, New Jersey’s Highland Park Library has “postponed” an event featuring Golbarg Bashi, Rutgers University professor, wife of anti-Israel Columbia University professor Hamid Dabashi, and author of the controversial children’s book P is for Palestine. It turns out teaching tots that “I is for Intifada” doesn’t go over so well with New Jersey’s Jewish community, or at least those who aren’t members of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which appears to have organized the event.
The library’s board of trustees will take up the matter at its next meeting later this month. Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Bashi claims “Israel Advocates” are engaging in "#BookBanning,” when nothing of the sort has occurred, and then comments nonsensically, “these Zionists are breaking the law.” Yet, she wants the public to believe she’s merely a children’s book author trying to shed light on “a resistance movement, most of which is manifested in peaceful protest.”
The latest such manifestation came in the form of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad launching nearly 700 rockets from Gaza at Israel, killing four people and injuring more than 200. Perhaps Golbarg should add a page to her book titled “R is for Rocket.”
