I was glad to read Central Connecticut State University professor Jay Bergman’s guest commentary Nov. 13 as otherwise I may not have known of the travesty bestowed upon CCSU students by political science professor Ghassan El-Eid. That is, the subjugation of 12 students to the propaganda of Iran’s President Ahmadinejad.
This is no doubt the result of an all inclusive diversity of the faculty to bring to the student body a balanced view of the world. The student body would be better served to read the history of Neville Chamberlain’s visits to Hitler. They then would garner a better view of Ahmadinejad’s reality than his being “kind to everyone who asked a question” and “really wants everyone to get along, be respected, and learn.” Chamberlain had Hitler’s promise to get along.
Professor El-Eid seems interested in facts. What he doesn’t seem to pay attention to are Ahmadinejad’s quotes. So I’d say to the students of CCSU, those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. And shame on CCSU to allow such activity. I suggest state funding be withheld until El-Eid is dismissed.
