In the wake of the mosque shooting in New Zealand, Middle East studies academics have stepped up the hysteria about “Islamophobia,” despite the fact that such attacks are exceedingly rare and that there is no related mass ideological movement in the West.
For example, Courtney Dorrall, an Islamic studies professor at Wofford College in South Carolina, declared in a lecture this week that “We have an issue with Islamophobia in the West.” She then announced that “My colleagues and I don’t think” asking if Muslims are denouncing Islamist terrorist attacks (which one hardly ever hears these days) is “an appropriate conversation.” Instead, she concluded, “It should be non-Muslims that are fighting islamophobia because we’re the ones that are islamophobic.”
In other words, shut up and pay no attention to Islamism, because the real problem is Western “Islamophobia.”
