A father from Bristol is on trial for child cruelty charges after telling a campaigner that his daughter had her genitalia cut.
The 29-year-old dad, who lives an inner city area, faces a charge of assaulting, ill-treating or neglecting a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
The case relates to an allegation that a female genital mutilation procedure was carried out on his daughter at the age of seven.
The father and the area of Bristol where the family is from cannot be identified, because of a court order to protect the girl’s anonymity.
Anna Vigars QC, prosecuting, told the jury the case concerns female genital mutilation, or FGM.
