Update: Lord Ahmed has been jailed for five and a half years.
A once-prominent political figure in Britain, Lord Nazir Ahmed, has been found guilty of sexual offences against two children in the 1970s, including the attempted rape of a young girl.
As the BBC reports, Lord Ahmed had already resigned from the House of Lords in November 2020 after “a conduct committee report concluded he had sexually and emotionally exploited a vulnerable woman who sought his help.”
But as Islamist Watch and other counter-Islamist organizations have noted on previous occasions, Lord Ahmed is not just another British politician, but a key member of a number of Islamist networks.
In 2005, Ahmed hosted a book launch in the House of Lords for Israel Shamir, also known as Jöran Jermas. Shamir’s speech at the event included statements such as: “Jews indeed own, control and edit a big share of mass media, this mainstay of Imperial thinking. ... In the Middle East we have just one reason for wars, terror and trouble — and that is Jewish supremacy drive.”
Lord Ahmed has regularly taken part in events with leading South Asian and British Islamists, including top officials of Jamaat-e-Islami, a violent South Asian Islamist movement.
In 2012, following the announcement of a U.S. bounty for the head of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, who is accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Lord Ahmed reportedly claimed that he would offer 10 million British pounds for the capture of Barack Obama or George Bush. He also reportedly stated that if “Iran was attacked, the Muslim nation should unite against these powers.”
He is a prominent figure in Pakistan, where, in a television interview given in 2013, he made anti-Semitic claims that a conviction against him for “dangerous driving” in Britain (in which he killed a man) was only handed down because of pressure placed on the courts by a purported secret cabal of “Jews” who also “own newspapers and TV channels.”
He also claimed that the judge in his conviction was appointed to his position after he helped a “Jewish colleague” of former Prime Minister Tony Blair.
In both the United Kingdom and the United States, Lord Ahmed has been closely involved with Islamist-run, Pakistani-backed Kashmiri activism, sharing platforms with Pakistani supporters of terror and prominent American Islamists.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lord Ahmed’s Islamist allies – in both Britain and the U.S. – have not commented on his conviction
