American comedian and former Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj has called out supposed ‘Islamophobia’ in hit series Bodyguard.
While Jed Mercurio’s six-part drama aired on the BBC in August and September, Netflix picked up the series to air internationally outside of the UK and Ireland, streaming its first episode on Oct 25.
Speaking on his Netflix political comedy show Patriot Act, Minhaj compared the depiction of Muslim people in Bodyguard to Ryan Zinke, Donald Trump’s interior secretary, exploiting, yet claiming to value protected federal land in the US.
At the 16-minute mark of the episode, Minhaj joked “you can’t idolise Teddy Roosevelt and destroy the environment... that’s like Netflix having the first Muslim talk show host and Bodyguard.”
