A student prevented from playing in a high school basketball game last week because she was wearing a hijab took the court Wednesday wearing her religious headscarf.
But Nasihah Thompson-King says the issue is not settled.
The sophomore from Mastery Charter School Shoemaker Campus wore her white and red uniform along with a tight-fitting black hijab Wednesday as she stepped onto the hardwood in the semifinal round of the girls District 12 basketball game, which was held at Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts.
“I’m just happy that I was able to play,” said Thompson-King after her team beat Mastery South to punch its ticket to the championship game this weekend.
