This is Bristol Prison’s Christmas dinner menu – featuring halal chicken

Prisoners at HMP Bristol won’t be having turkey for Christmas – but there’s halal chicken on the menu.

The main course for inmates at Bristol prison on Christmas Day will be a choice of halal half roast chicken, gammon steak and pineapple or vegetable schnitzel.

The courses will be served with optional sausages wrapped in bacon, plus stuffing balls, Brussels sprouts, carrots and roast potatoes or boiled rice.

The desserts on the menu will be Christmas pudding with vanilla sauce and fresh fruit.

The Bristol Post obtained the Christmas menu after a Freedom of Information request to the Ministry of Justice.

The latest figures show that 531 prisoners were locked up in HMP Bristol in November.

Here’s the full menu for prisoners:

  • Half Halal roast chicken
  • Gammon steak and pineapple
  • Vegetable schnitzel
  • Pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, Brussel sprouts and carrots, Roast potatoes, boiled rice

Other prisons across the country will also be serving halal options to inmates for Christmas dinner.

HMP Birmingham has halal beef and Yorkshire pudding on the menu, for those of its inmates who have not been transferred out after last week’s riot.
