Gilbert Pregno, the president of the consultative Human Rights Committee, said that in banning the wearing of religious veils “the government looked for a solution to a problem that doesn’t yet exist.”
In an interview with radio RTL, Pregno explained his committee’s opinion on the recent draft law on the concealment of the face. He said it was clear that this law targeted women wearing a burqa or a niqab, and that estimates suggest between 5 to 10 women wore them in Luxembourg.
Recently, the Council of State also passed a critical opinion of the draft law.
