Philadelphia – November 28, 2017 – It’s that time of year again: #GivingTuesday, the nationwide event kicking off the holiday charitable season, celebrated on the Tuesday following the Thanksgiving holiday.
Last year, the Middle East Forum asked that you support anti-Islamist Muslim groups on #GivingTuesday.
This year, we ask you to support our important work to promote American interests and protect Western values.
Your tax-deductible contribution to MEF is money well spent – every dollar goes directly toward supporting the research and grassroots work that undermines our enemies and supports our allies.
Great news for Facebook users: The first two million dollars donated to any nonprofit on Facebook on Giving Tuesday will be matched – simply go to the Middle East Forum Facebook page starting at 8am EST on Tuesday, November 28th and click the “donate” button.
In 2017, the Forum:
- Turned ideas into policy: we held 352 meetings with government officials in Washington and abroad. Topics included effective vetting of refugees, supporting an Israel victory, creating a commission on radical Islam, and ending government funding of Islamist groups.
- Changed the narrative on the Israel-Palestinian conflict: our work inspired the launch of the bipartisan Congressional Israel Victory Caucus (CIVC) in April and the Knesset Israel Victory Caucus (KIVC) in July. Earlier this month, the two sister caucuses met in Washington, D.C., to sign a joint declaration calling for an Israel victory and an end to Palestinian terror against the Jewish state: both necessary to secure peace in the region.
- Took money out of the hands of extremists: we persuaded Pfizer, General Electric, and Ecolab to stop funding Islamist groups, and we launched a very public campaign against the Silicon Valley Community Foundation for its continued support of groups that preach violent, misogynistic, homophobic, and xenophobic ideology.
- Stood for free speech and transparency at NATO and in the courtroom: the Forum hosted a delegation from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in September, and was pressured at the last minute to censor a critic of Turkey’s Islamist regime. Instead, the Forum allowed the critic to speak, leading Turkish delegates to storm out – and shedding light on NATO’s “enemy on the inside.” The Forum also sued the Department of Homeland Security for hiding information on its funding of Islamists and put the Muslim Brotherhood on trial in Canada.
- Continued to shape public opinion: so far this year, our fellows and experts have written 323 articles in 81 publications, conducted 157 interviews in 95 media outlets, and earned hundreds of mentions in the mainstream media, appearing everywhere from AP and The Wall Street Journal to Iran’s state-rum PressTV (challenging the Iranian regime) and The Times of London.
- Expanded our staff; aided our allies: the Forum hired several new staffers over the course of the year, while increasing its leadership development efforts to enable current staff to remain on the cutting edge of communications and fundraising. Finally, the Forum bolstered its aid to moderate Muslim organizations and other anti-terror, pro-free speech, and anti-Islamist voices from California to Jerusalem.
