Rep. Peter Deutsch

Peter Deutsch is an American lawyer and former politician who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2005. Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1957, Deutsch graduated from Yale Law School in 1982 before moving to Broward County, Florida. He began his political career in the Florida House of Representatives, where he served five terms from 1982 to 1992, focusing on legislation to protect seniors.

In 1992, Deutsch was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served for six terms. During his time in Congress, he became the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Energy and Commerce Committee, investigating high-profile cases such as the Enron scandal and Martha Stewart’s ImClone stock trading case. Deutsch also played a significant role in the Florida election recount following the 2000 presidential election.

After leaving Congress, Deutsch made an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 2004, losing in the Democratic primary to Betty Castor. In recent years, Deutsch has made headlines for his political endorsements, notably supporting Republican Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential election. Currently, Deutsch resides in Ra’anana, Israel, with his family, though he maintains strong ties to Florida. He is the founder of Ben Gamla Charter School in Hollywood, Florida, and continues to be involved in various political and educational initiatives.
